Alexandra Mudd

Alexandra Mudd BN (Hons), RN, LLB

Lecturer in Adult Nursing

Summary

I am enthusiastic about supporting students and working alongside staff to make Hallam a world leading applied university. I am a proud nurse and have a background working in acute hospital environments (Royal Liverpool and Broadgreen University Hospitals NHS Trust, Newcastle upon Tyne Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust, Royal Free NHS Foundation Trust and Sheffield Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust).

After working in liver transplant and infectious diseases, I developed an interest in healthcare ethics, completed a law degree, and worked in legal practice. My passion to be part of improvements in healthcare provision and experiences, led me to work across clinical care and healthcare research both in the UK and Australia. My healthcare teaching journey started in Australia, and after completing a Post Graduate Certificate in Medical and Healthcare Education, I have returned to Sheffield to continue teaching and research at Hallam.

Teaching

School of Health and Social Care

College of Health, Wellbeing and Life Sciences

I am interested in relationship based care and improving the consumer voice within healthcare education. Since the COVID-19 pandemic, I've also worked on projects to engage students and staff and encourage participation.

I teach across the integrated healthcare curriculum and in nursing specific modules. This involves teaching across academic levels 4 through to 7. My current modules include: Assessing and Planning for Person Centred Care, Assessing and Addressing Complexity, Leading and Coordinating Person Centred Care, Leading for Future, Evidence and Enquiry for Practice and The Advancing Professional.

Ï㽶ÊÓƵ

My primary focus is relationship based healthcare. This includes investigating the theoretical underpinnings of relationship based care, exploring novel methods to measure care, and researching nursing leadership which values, promotes and advocates for relationship based healthcare. Additional projects relate to student and staff experiences of emergency online learning during COVID 19, the use of digital technologies in the healthcare environment and the use of digital technologies to support homebound populations.
