Doctor Alisha Ali Ph.D, MSc., BSc., FHEA, CMBE, UKCGE Recognised Ï㽶ÊÓƵ Supervisor
Associate Professor and Head of Ï㽶ÊÓƵ Degrees
Summary
I am an interdisciplinary researcher specialising in the sustainable development of tourism and hospitality. As an Associate Professor, my research and teaching focus on examining technology for sustainable tourism development, the relationship between sustainable development, technology and education, and the broader applications of sustainable development by focusing on social responsibility, working conditions and entrepreneurship.
About
In May 2024, I was appointed Chair of the Council for Hospitality Management Education (CHME).
As a Head of Ï㽶ÊÓƵ Degrees, I lead doctoral education (Ph. D.s and Professional Doctorates) in the social sciences. Before this, I was the Ï㽶ÊÓƵ Lead for the Department of Service Sector Management and PhD Programme Leader for the Sheffield Business School. I am passionate about researcher development and committed to developing inclusive and inspirational research environments. I am an experienced doctoral supervisor and examiner.
I have a background in consultancy, working with government offices, destination management organisations (DMOs) and international, national, and local businesses. Some of my career highlights include developing feasibility studies for DMOs, developing marketing communication material for the travel and tourism industry, conducting market research and analysis of worldwide trends in the hospitality and tourism industry, and working on live tourism plans and projects and participating in their implementation.
I have been invited as a guest speaker in Australia, Switzerland, Dubai, Botswana, Canada, and Finland. I am frequently consulted as an external expert on grants for research funding, validation of hospitality and tourism programmes, journal reviewing, and external examinations.
