Professor Amanze Ejiogu PhD, FCCA
Professor of Accounting, Society and Accountability
Summary
I am interested in studying the interface between accounting and society from an interdisciplinary perspective – how accounting impacts society and in turn is impacted by society. I am particularly interested in accounting issues as they relate to corruption, transparency, social housing, the public sector, and natural resource governance.
About
I joined the Finance, Accounting and Business Systems department in February 2023. My research interests centre around studying the interface between accounting (in its broadest sense), accountability and society from an interdisciplinary perspective.
My research spans the fields of accounting, human resource management, operations management, critical geography, sociology, criminology and law. I have researched and published on topics including:
• The regulation of social housing
• Transparency in the extractive industry
• The link between stigmatization of social housing residents and performance and accountability of housing associations
• How accountability and performance measurement in prisons impacts on service delivery and outcomes for inmates
• Role of accountants in developing water accountability mechanisms in Sub-Saharan Africa
• Developing organisational capacity to identify and respond to gambling related domestic abuse amongst social housing residents.
I am a Fellow of the Higher Education Academy (FHEA) with extensive experience of teaching and researching in several higher education institutions in the UK. Prior to joining academia, I worked as an accountant and consultant in industry. I am a Fellow of the Association of Chartered Certified Accountants (FCCA). In addition, I have several years of experience working as a Non-Executive Director for various organisations.
