Doctor Anna Liddle BA (hons), MA, PhD, FHEA
Lecturer in Education
Summary
I am a sociologist of education and I lecture on the BA (Hons) Education Studies, BA (Hons) Education with Psychology and Counselling, and the BA (Hons) Education with Autism, Disability and SEN degrees. My particular research interests are in the field of peace, citizenship and political education.
About
My passion as a lecturer is to engage students in consideration about the big issues in education and develop their critical thinking skills. As a sociologist of education, I am keen to explore education's place in society, who benefits and who doesn't, and why. I am enthusiastic to consider how education can work for social justice.
My research also falls in this area. My PhD research was on how schools teach about peace and war. I have recently been a postdoctoral research fellow on a project called Speaking Citizens, which aimed to understand how young people communicate politically and about speech education in schools. I also worked on a project called the Deliberative Classroom, researching how students engage with complex and controversial topics related to living within a democracy.
Currently, I sit on the national council of the Association for Citizenship Teaching and am on the editorial board of their journal: Teaching Citizenship.
