I am a Senior Lecturer in Psychology and Course Leader of the MSc in Developmental Psychology.
About
I received my BA in Psychology from the National University of Ireland, Galway in 2002 and my PhD from the same institution in 2009. I joined Ïã½¶ÊÓÆµ in 2010 after spending some time researching the influence of sleep deprivation on cognition and cardiovascular function.
Since becoming a member of the Department of Psychology, Sociology, and Politics, I have continued to do research and have taught on a wide array of modules. Particular teaching interests include research methods and statistics, personality, and health-related psychobiology. I co-lead the first year module Psychology Practicals and Statistics and teach on more advanced statistics modules at undergraduate and postgraduate levels. Other module leaderships include Psychobiological Determinants of Health on our MSc in Health Psychology and Psychology of Differential Development on our MSc in Developmental Psychology.
My research interests are broad, but a common theme is the use of an individual differences perspective. I have done several studies on social processes in autism alongside other studies looking at topics as diverse as gaming motivation, academic buoyancy and narcissism. I am particularly interested in the overlap or continuity between 'normal' behaviour and psychological phenomena that are considered to be abnormal or clinically relevant.
I am a chartered member of the British Psychological Society and a senior fellow of the Higher Education Academy.
