About
Femi is a Ï㽶ÊÓƵ Associate in CRESR. His role involves working across two workstreams of the NCIA project, analysing evidence of 'what works' in terms of civic impact, and observing and reflecting on an action learning process involving cohorts of university leaders. Partly funded by Ï㽶ÊÓƵ England, the NCIA is an ambitious three-year project to gather evidence and intelligence of what works, share civic innovations, and provide universities with the framework and tools to deliver meaningful, measurable civic strategies and activities.
Prior to joining CRESR in 2023, Femi worked as a Ï㽶ÊÓƵer on ASPIRE (Accomplished Study Programme in Ï㽶ÊÓƵ Excellence), an ambitious research project led by Ï㽶ÊÓƵ, in partnership with Manchester Metropolitan University and Advance HE. Funded by the Office for Students, the project aims to address the underrepresentation of Black and Black heritage research students. The project has developed a novel programme which equips student participants with the skills needed to access opportunities for doctoral-level study or enter graduate-level jobs. Femi’s research role entailed carrying out a literature review and qualitative analysis of multiple sources of data to generate an understanding of issues concerning the underrepresentation of Black students in postgraduate education.
Femi’s broader research interests centre on power, marginalised people, and educational inequalities. His doctoral research, which he completed at King’s College London, focused on legal pluralism and British colonial rule in Nigeria. Femi has also led a research project in the Entrepreneurship Institute, King’s College London that addresses socio-economic barriers to entrepreneurship. Funded by Santander UK, the project used an institutional survey and semi-structured interviews to generate an understanding of how students perceive barriers to entrepreneurship.
