I joined Ï㽶ÊÓƵ in 2012 as a lecturer in Psychology. I am a chartered member of the British Psychological Society and I am a registered Health Psychologist (Health and Care Professions Council.

About

I have always had an interest in the Psychology of Health and Illness and therefore after completing my undergraduate degree in Psychology in 2001 I undertook a Masters in Health Psychology at the University of Sussex. I spent the following five years gaining experience of working with a variety of client groups including older adults and people with learning disabilities. Three of these years were spent working within the NHS delivering brief Psychological Cognitive Behavioural Therapy-based interventions to people experiencing depression and/or anxiety.

My interest in the field of health and illness led me to join the University of Sheffield in 2007 to conduct a PhD Ï㽶ÊÓƵ Project investigating the Psychosocial impact of dental injuries in children and families. Whilst studying for my PhD I managed to combine my research activities with independent study towards the stage 2 qualification in Health Psychology. Since completing my PhD in January 2010 I have worked as a researcher for the University of Sheffield on a broad range of projects in the areas of dental anxiety, psychosocial impact of life stressors and health conditions and health service evaluation. 

My specific research interests include: Health Service Evaluation; the Psychosocial impact of Health Conditions, Quality of Life; Healthcare Practitioner-Patient Communication; healthcare satisfaction; and dental anxiety. I am currently working on a research project which aims to develop a self-help CBT-based resource for young people with dental anxiety, which is funded by a Ï㽶ÊÓƵ for Patient Benefit (NIHR) grant.

I review for several international medical and dentistry journals (e.g. Dental Traumatology, Quality of Life Ï㽶ÊÓƵ, Cleft Palate-Craniofacial Journal, International Journal of Paediatric Dentistry and International Journal of Medical Sciences). I also carry out consultancy and I am a member of the British Psychological Society.

I am registered with the Health and Care Professions Council as a Health Psychologist. I am also a BPS registered Applied Psychology Practice Supervisor (RAPPS).
