Summary

Julie is a Senior Lecturer in Adult Nursing in the Department of Nursing and Midwifery.  She has worked in Higher Education since 1994 at both the University of Sheffield and since 2006 at Ïã½¶ÊÓÆµ.

About

Julie trained as a Nurse in Newcastle-Upon-Tyne, qualifying in 1985.  Julie has professional registrations with the Nursing and Midwifery Council as a Registered General Nurse and Registered Nurse Teacher.  Julie worked clinically as a registered nurse in a variety of adult care environments.

She completed a Master of Medical Science in Clinical Nursing at the University of Sheffield in 1998.  In 2014 Julie was awarded her PhD by the University of Nottingham for the thesis: 'Am I still here': A longitudinal ethnographic study of living with frailty.

Julie has published widely (peer reviewed articles, book chapters, editorials) in both national and international journals.  She has also presented oral and poster presentations at local, national and international conferences.

Julie's research and professional interests include: palliative care for service users, and their families, with limiting illness other than cancer; the experience and impact of frailty in later life.

Julie is currently working on a number of research projects aligned to her areas of interest: palliative and end of life care; the experiences and impact of fraiolty in later life.  She is the Lead for the Cancer and Life Limiting Illness Theme within the Nursing and Allied Health Professionals Faculty.  Work within this theme includes: Cancer management; Dementia; Palliative and End of Life Care.

2018 - Treatment decision making for frail older people with Lung Cancer.  PI.  Funded by Weston Park Cancer Charity (Sheffield)

2018 - Evaluation of a community hospice telephone triage service.  PI.  Funded by Macmillan Cancer Support

2018 - Exploring acuity and dependency in palliative care patients.  PI.  Funded by St Luke's Hospice (Sheffield).

2018 - Developing a framework to support management of dysphagia in older people in care homes.  Co-I.  Funded by Abbeyfield Foundation.

Julie currently supervises a range of Masters level projects and one PhD, focusing on the experience of family caregiving within palliative and end of life care.
