Rob Smallwood MSc, BA, FHEA, FSET
Senior lecturer (Policing)
Summary
I served as a police officer in Derbyshire Constabulary for 33 years in a number of roles, primarily front line at a variety of locations within the county. I have dealt with a wide variety of policing and crime incidents/investigations, and was commended for my actions at the scene of the 1989 Kegworth air disaster, in which 47 people died and 74 were seriously injured. I concluded my service as a trainer at Derbyshire police headquarters.
I have always had a strong interest in the way that police officers are taught and developed in terms of knowledge, skills and understanding. In September 2017 I commenced in the role of lecturer in policing at the University of Derby, becoming programme leader for the BA (Hons) Policing degree, and in March 2019 joined Ï㽶ÊÓƵ as senior lecturer in policing. I am a member of the British Society of Criminology and the International Investigative Interviewing Ï㽶ÊÓƵ Group.
