This course designed by the Helena Kennedy Centre for International Justice is ideal for professionals who are engaging in justice and security reform.

Modules are individually certified and can be studied standalone or built up to the full masters qualification.

Learning and teaching focuses on knowledge development and its application in a  professional context. Modules encourage your development as a reflective practitioner, with tasks and activities exploring and questioning beliefs, and assumptions often taken for granted, informing your own practice and the work of your agency.

Certified Modules 

Violence, Vulnerability and Victimisation 

Designed for professionals who want to enhance their knowledge and understanding of violence, vulnerability and victimisation needs across civil society and the justice sector.

On this course you will develop your insight into how to improve responses to violence, vulnerability and victimisation at a strategic and operational level to improve support for victims and survivors of violence.

You will be asked to undertake a project that focuses on a specific area of violence and to draft an innovative action plan that outlines how you will respond to and support victims and survivors of that violence.

Understanding Extremism and Radicalisation

Drawing upon your professional knowledge and experience of extremism, radicalisation and Counter Terrorism theory and Practice within domestic and international settings, on this course you will develop your understanding of extremism and radicalisation to support future decision-making about appropriate interventions involving state and civil society approaches.

Part one of the course focuses on the contested definitions of extremism and radicalisation, including consideration of domestic and international case studies and part two focuses upon the application of theory within your own context.

Managing Risk in the Justice Sector

This course draws upon the Helena Kennedy Centre for International Justice’s experience and expertise in risk management, vulnerability and public protection within domestic and international settings.

The course provides a high quality, supportive and intensive learning environment for you to build competency and capability to enhance strategic and operational decision-making in the management of risk using real-world scenarios.

Inter-Agency Co-operation for Civil Society and Justice Sector Organisations

Designed for professionals seeking to enhance their knowledge and understanding of inter-agency co-operation in the civil society and justice sectors.

On this course you will critically appraise the challenge of inter-agency working in the civil society and justice sectors then apply this knowledge in professional and personal contexts.

You will be taught by experts in inter-professional theory and practice within domestic and international settings.

Innovation and Change in the Justice Sector

Innovation and Change in the justice sector provides justice sector professionals with the opportunity to reflect upon professional experiences of legal and criminal justice reform and to situate this analysis within the context of innovation and change principles and theory.

The course examines the key challenges present in the management of strategic change with an emphasis upon culture, power, politics, organisational restructuring and management styles.

You will be asked to evaluate different change management methods and to put together a change management portfolio and plan.

Female Leadership in Policing

Designed for women working within policing who are seeking to expand and enhance their leadership knowledge and skills, this course brings together experienced professionals and colleagues facing similar challenges and opportunities.

The course is strategically linked to the aims and goals of the Helena Kennedy Centre for International Justice through its focus on applied learning and professional practice for experienced professionals developing their career within the justice sector.

Using a range of live case studies, this course helps you to develop your professional practice through the creation of your own leadership action plan in a distinct area of the justice sector in collaboration with other leaders and innovators in this field.

Female Leadership in the Justice Sector

The course is aimed at women working within the justice sector who are seeking to expand and enhance their leadership knowledge and skills through engagement with industry experts, experienced professionals and other colleagues facing similar challenges and opportunities.

The course is strategically linked to the aims and goals of the Helena Kennedy Centre for International Justice through its focus on applied learning and professional practice for experienced professionals developing their career within the justice sector.

You will be asked to create your own leadership action plan in a distinct area of the justice sector and to assess the implications of this learning by working in collaboration with others.

Evidence Based Policing

Designed for professionals seeking to enhance their knowledge and understanding of evidence-based practice in a policing context, this course introduces the theoretical concept of evidence-based policing and its influence and implications upon strategic and operational policing.

The course introduces a range of problem-solving models alongside cutting edge data analytical techniques to help you drive performance improvements and more efficient, fairer and just policing.

You will undertake a project assessing the impact of evidence-based policing upon your own practice using complex crime problems and the development of proposed policing interventions.

Digital Policing

Designed to introduce you to the fundamentals of digital policing, this course will help you to develop and enhance your digital, analytical and problem-solving skills through applied learning.

The course provides insight into how to build capability and capacity to support digital policing in organisations and in your own professional development.

You will be introduced to a range of models, tools and techniques to manage the processes of collection, validation, analysis and interpretation of information and data and will undertake a work-based project using real-life case studies to develop a response to a contemporary digital policing and crime problem.

Diversity and Inclusion in the Justice Sector

Designed for justice-sector professionals, this course delivers innovative applied learning and up-to-date knowledge about diversity and inclusion that aligns with local, national and international norms and standards.

You will be introduced to theoretical and conceptual understandings of diversity, inclusion, equality and belonging and the role of these theories and concepts in promulgating the development of a fairer, more just, and transparent working environment for practitioners and their stakeholders.

You will undertake a project that reviews diversity and inclusion within your own work context and will draft an innovative action plan to advance principles of diversity and inclusion in your organisation and beyond.
