Leading People and Teams




Introduction
This module critically explores the relationship between effective leadership and the team; it develops a theoretical and applied understanding of the human and interpersonal dimensions of leadership and management of teams within complex, changing, health and social care environments.

All health and social care professionals, including third sector or private organisations.

Undertaking this module will help you understand some of the latest thinking regarding to managing teams and people. It will explore contemporary approaches to people management and diversity, which can inform leadership practice, support organisational goals / objectives, all with the service user in mind.
What you learn
This module will explore concepts related to team effectiveness, motivation, employee engagement and creating cultures of psychological safety within the complex contemporary health and social care environment. Group dynamics, followership and leadership behaviour will all inform your learning.

Delivery Method:
Engaging and varied online distance learning activities supported by weekly live online tutor facilitated sessions and engagement with peers. Please contact the module leader for further information and the timetable of the live sessions.

- You must have experience of studying and writing at level 6.
- You must have access to a reliable internet connection
- Where English is not your first language you must be able to supply IELTS scores.

Provisional timetable
Commences week commencing November 10th 2025 - February 26th 2026.
Live online tutorials will take place on Thursday afternoons at 13:30 - 15:30 throughout the module via MS Teams (with a 2 week break over Christmas). Please email the module leader for more information if required: R.Yassaie@shu.ac.uk.
Students are encouraged to attend every week where possible, but all sessions will be recorded. -
