Minor Injury Management




Introduction
This module will provide the student with the knowledge and skills to assess and treat patients presenting with undifferentiated and undiagnosed minor injury conditions.

This module will prepare the student to undertake an autonomous/advanced practitioner role and is aimed at nurses and allied health professionals working within acute and unscheduled care settings.
Patients will receive a safe, high standard of holistic and evidence based care from a practitioner who is skilled and competent to assess and treat patients or refer them on to definitive care.
This module will enable the supporting organisation achieve performance targets e.g. 4 hour Emergency Department quality standard.
This module will benefit supporting organisations with Staff that can competently and efficiently assess and manage patients with minor injury conditions. Staff will have improved confidence with managing patients with minor injuries across a range of settings.
What you learn
On completion of the module the student will be able to assess patients with a variety of presenting complaints and will be competent to undertake assessment and treatment of patients with minor injury conditions including; joint examinations, neck, shoulder, elbow, wrist and hand, back and hip examination, knee, lower leg and ankle/foot. Practical skills including suturing, digital nerve blocks and Xray interpretation are included.
This module can be linked to the MSc Advancing Clinical Practice award.

Entry requirements
The student should be on the relevant professional register and have the ability to work at Masters level 7. This module would be suitable for Health Care Professionals working in an unscheduled care setting. It is expected that the student will have 100% attendance.
Relevant workplace opportunities and organisational support should be in place to enable the student to achieve successful completion of the module.

Assessment
Module assessment is made up of one or more assessment tasks.
