This course provides a strong foundation for a career in construction project management. You’ll work on real-world scenarios to gain practical experience, as well as completing a work placement to enhance your research skills and employability. Delivered by a team of industry-experienced professionals, you’ll graduate with the skills employers need, able to manage projects efficiently in a rapidly evolving sector.

How you learn
The course takes an active learning approach, encouraging you to develop innovative solutions to real-world construction challenges. You’ll engage in problem-based learning, interdisciplinary projects and live case studies, building your technical expertise and professional confidence.
New material is introduced through lectures and explored further in tutorials, seminars and group discussions. Site visits allow you to experience the construction industry first-hand, while guest speakers provide insight into current industry trends and challenges.
A key feature of the course is an international field trip, where you’ll work in interdisciplinary teams to complete a construction project in a foreign city. This experience mirrors real-world industry challenges to develop your professional skills, team collaboration and critical thinking.

Key themes
During the course you’ll undertake a range of construction project management modules and themes – from leadership and collaboration to management of health, safety, sustainability and risk. You’ll learn to consider the environmental, economic and social impact of projects, while ensuring all construction projects are planned, coordinated and delivered in accordance with the latest UK Health and Safety Legislation.
You’ll also work alongside other build-environment professionals, while gaining hands-on experience with industry-standard software and the latest developments in Building Information Modelling (BIM).

Throughout the course, you’ll engage in applied learning activities that bridge the gap between theory and professional practice. You’ll visit construction sites, interact with industry professionals, and work on live projects that reflect real construction challenges.
You’ll gain hands-on experience through:
Work placements
You’ll have the opportunity to source a work placement for up to 12 months, where you’ll apply academic theory and your skills in a real-world setting. This hands-on experience will enhance your professional development and help you to make informed career choices after graduation.
Throughout your placement, you’ll be supported to reflect on your experience and contribution to the organisation you work for. You'll also share your progress and achievements with your Placement Academic Supervisor, as part of your final assessment.
Work placements are competitive, so you’ll need to make formal applications to employers and be successful in securing an opportunity. The application process for placements takes place while you’re a student with us.
To support you in applying for placements, you’ll complete an additional placement preparation programme that introduces you to the UK employment landscape, and prepares you for the recruitment and assessment activities you will experience during that process. We also maintain a large database of placement offers you can search to find opportunities to apply for.
Live projects
Engage in projects that simulate real-world construction management challenges, applying your problem-solving and teamwork skills to industry-focused scenarios.
Field trips
Visit active construction sites and leading firms to gain insight into the latest industry trends, technologies, and management strategies. Previous opportunities have included collaborative activities with overseas universities and industry professionals, as well as trips to Berlin.
Networking opportunities
Attend guest lectures, career events, and networking sessions with industry professionals, providing you with valuable contacts and career insights. These take place through employer engagement events, our dedicated construction employability team, and through our course accreditation with The Chartered Institute of Building and the Royal Institute of Chartered Surveyors.
Through your dissertation or consultancy project, you’ll have the chance to specialise in an area that aligns with your career goals. You’ll also have access to postgraduate career development initiatives, including leadership programmes, management workshops, CV writing and career coaching.

Entry requirements
All students
Minimum 2:2 degree or equivalent in any discipline.
We welcome applications from candidates who may not meet the exact academic entry requirements but have significant relevant experience, on application you will be referred to our course leader, who will evaluate your experience, this may involve an informal conversation either in person or by other media.
If English is not your first language you typically need an IELTS 6.5 overall score with a minimum of 6.0 in all other skills or equivalent. If your English language skill is currently below IELTS 6.5 we recommend you consider a Ïã½¶ÊÓÆµ course which will enable you to achieve an equivalent English score.

Home students
Our tuition fee for UK students starting full-time study in 2025/26 is £12,120 for the course. The tuition fee displayed above is for the full course. For this work experience route, your fees will be payable over two years, divided into two annual payments based on credits studied. The fee includes dedicated employability support to help you prepare for and secure work experience. It does not guarantee you a placement and if a placement is not secured the work experience fee will still be charged. If a placement is not secured you will transfer to the standard version of the course to complete your remaining credits, where the balance of your course fees will be due in year one in line with completing the course.
If you are studying an undergraduate course, postgraduate pre-registration course or postgraduate research course over more than one academic year then your tuition fees may increase in subsequent years in line with Government regulations or UK Ïã½¶ÊÓÆµ and Innovation (UKRI) published fees. International students
