What is the Jisc Discovery Tool?

The Jisc discovery tool is a resource designed to help students and staff at universities understand their digital capabilities and find areas for improvement.

• Digital proficiency and productivity

• Digital communication, collaboration and participation
• Digital identity and wellbeing

The report will recommend some free online learning packages from recognised providers, such as Microsoft & Google, that you can explore at your own pace and fit around your studies.

By completing the learning packages, you will gain valuable skills and improve your digital capabilities. 

How to use the Jisc discovery tool

Access the Jisc discovery tool

1. Go to the
2. Select Ï㽶ÊÓƵ as your organisation and provide your SHU login details.
3. Select the Jisc discovery tool for students.
4. Select question sets for students.
5. Select the relevant question bank for New or Current Students.
6. Click to start the questionnaire.

Taking the assessment and using the report

The tool will recommend a collection of resources categorised by theme. These resources can help you develop your digital capabilities in specific areas as shown in your report. 

You can complete these learning packages at your own pace to improve your digital capabilities. 

Reviewing your progress

By retaking the assessment, you can see how your knowledge and skills have improved over time. This can be motivating and help you find areas where you may want to focus your learning efforts. 

Retaking the question set lets you compare results from past attempts. Analyse your progress with the provided radial graphs, allowing you to find areas for further development.
