Nvivo needs permission to access data on your computer before it can run

This issue may arise when NVivo 12 attempts to access the Mac Hard Disk to make the necessary changes for the software to function. As a result, a recurring error message appears, creating a loop. To resolve this, please follow the instructions below to implement a fix.

 Instructions

 Quit NVivo 12 completely

Open System Preferences and navigate to Security & Privacy

In the Privacy tab, grant “Full Disk access” to both Terminal and NVivo 12

If NVivo 12 or Terminal does not appear in the list, click the "+" button

Locate NVivo 12 in the "Applications" folder and Terminal in the "Utility" folder

Add them both and ensure they are checked.

Launch Terminal and enter the following command:

touch   ~$USER/Library/Safari/CloudTabs.db

Note: The “USER” WILL need to be changed to the name of your account.

To confirm the correct system profile name, follow these steps in Terminal:

  1. Type "cd .." (without quotation marks) and press Enter.

  2. Type "ls" (without quotation marks) to list all user accounts. Locate and note the exact name of the account you are using.

  3. Then press enter

If there is no output after pressing Enter, it indicates the command was successful.

Launch NVivo 12 again. It should now work as expected.
