If you have lived outside of the UK for 12 months or more (whether continuously or in total) in the last 10 years, while aged 18 or over, you must provide a ‘Criminal Record Certificate’ from the relevant country. Guidance on how to request this can be found .
Please apply for the Criminal Record Certificate as soon as possible, as they can take some time to arrive. Once you have the documents, please email them to professionalchecks@shu.ac.uk
- For Health students and Ï㽶ÊÓƵ Education students - you are unable to enrol until we receive proof of application for your Overseas Criminal Records check. You will not be able to attend placement until a copy of the certificate has been received and has been cleared.
- For PGCE students - you are unable to enrol until we have received a copy of a complete and cleared Overseas Criminal Records certificate.
Overseas students
You must still complete a DBS check in addition to the overseas criminal check. If you do not currently hold a permanent address in the UK, you will need to complete your DBS application upon arrival in the UK, giving your new UK address. You will need to attend a face to face ID check at the university to complete this.
