We've worked with our students to develop an approach that combines time on campus with digital learning and support.
And because every course is different, your learning mix will reflect what you're studying and the modules you've chosen.

Knowledge applied
Our teaching style can be summed up in two words: knowledge applied. We believe the best way to learn something is to put it into practice. You'll achieve that through
- work experience embedded in every year of your course
- opportunities to take a placement year, resulting in an applied professional diploma
- a digital skills pathway within your course
- a personalised support and employability package
- a course designed with industry experts
- personal development tailored to your chosen course and industry
- a curriculum designed for collaboration and cross-disciplinary learning
Rethinking learning
At Sheffield Hallam, we’re innovating how you learn and take assessments.
We’ve designed our teaching in partnership with students and employers so that you’ll study a maximum of four modules each year. You’ll usually only study two or fewer modules at once, and never more than three modules at a time.
This means you can:
- study your topic in greater depth – you’ll get to immerse yourself in your subject for a more rewarding and applied learning experience
- apply your learning to the real world, through placements, live projects with industry and global opportunities
- make connections between topics and discover what interests you most
- grow your knowledge from one module to the next, with lecturers who fully understand what you’ve learnt so far and can build on this
- take fewer, more focused assessments, not lots of end-of-year exams. You’ll usually be assessed whilst you’re studying a module, so the topic is fresh in your mind
We believe this more modern approach supports better learning outcomes and equips you with the skills to succeed in your future career.
