Work Placement Route

For international students wishing to undertake a placement as part of this course, you must apply to MSc Construction Project Management (Work Experience) route. Transferring to the work experience route later will not be possible due to visa restrictions.

How you learn

The course takes an active learning approach, encouraging you to develop innovative and creative solutions to complex construction challenges. You’ll engage in problem-based learning, industry projects and site visits, gaining a deep understanding of construction project management in real-world contexts.

New concepts are introduced through lectures, with tutorials and seminars reinforcing key techniques. Guest lectures and industry insights provide practical applications of construction project management principles. A virtual learning environment supports your studies, giving you access to technical reports, case studies and industry-standard software.

A key feature of the course is an international field trip, where you’ll work in interdisciplinary teams to complete a construction project in a foreign city. This experience mirrors real-world industry challenges to develop your professional skills, team collaboration and critical thinking.

Key themes

During the course you’ll undertake a range of construction project management modules and themes – from leadership and collaboration to management of health, safety, sustainability and risk. You’ll learn to consider the environmental, economic and social impact of projects, while ensuring all construction projects are planned, coordinated and delivered in accordance with the latest UK Health and Safety Legislation.

You’ll also work alongside other build-environment professionals, while gaining hands-on experience with industry-standard software and the latest developments in Building Information Modelling (BIM).

Natural and Built Environment Facilities Tour

Equipment and facilities

You’ll study in modern lecture theatres, seminar rooms and IT suites designed for interactive learning and practical application. Sheffield’s active construction sites also provide valuable learning experiences through site visits.

Teaching is supported by audiovisual resources, recorded lectures and online materials accessible via Blackboard Ultra.

Entry requirements

All students

Minimum 2:2 degree or equivalent in any discipline.

We welcome applications from candidates who may not meet the exact academic entry requirements but have significant relevant experience, on application you will be referred to our course leader, who will evaluate your experience, this may involve an informal conversation either in person or by other media.

If English is not your first language you typically need an IELTS 6.0 overall score with a minimum of 5.5 in all other skills or equivalent. If your English language skill is currently below IELTS 6.0 we recommend you consider a Ïã½¶ÊÓÆµ course which will enable you to achieve an equivalent English score.

Home students

Our tuition fee for UK students starting full-time study in 2026/27 is £10,940 for the course.

If you are studying an undergraduate course, postgraduate pre-registration course or postgraduate research course over more than one academic year then your tuition fees may increase in subsequent years in line with Government regulations or UK Ïã½¶ÊÓÆµ and Innovation (UKRI) published fees. Our tuition fee for International/EU students starting full-time study in 2026/27 is £18,600 for the course.
