If you are worried about your use of alcohol or drugs or would like to know more about how to stay safe, there is lots of support available. It might be that you are finding it difficult to control how much or how often you are drinking or using drugs or perhaps worried about what happens when you do.

Many people have used drugs at one time or another. If you are concerned about your use of drugs you can take this test to understand more.

Lots of people enjoy a drink but we might worry sometimes about our drinking levels. You can take this test if you are concerned about your drinking habits.

This test looks at your general wellbeing. Please be aware that this is a standard validated test giving a measure of wellbeing.

Togetherall is an online mental health community with a wealth of resources - available free to all staff and students.   To access resources from Togetherall you need to register for an account here . You will only need to do this once. This will allow you to access many of the tools on our site.

The 1625 Outreach team can offer advice and information about drugs and alcohol to students. They are a free and confidential service and can be contacted via Instagram- @1625_outreach.

They can help with-

  • Tips and advice on staying safe whilst having a good time
  • Support with accessing other help, such as wellbeing and other health services
  • They offer a drop-in on campus here at Hallam. This is a confidential space where you can come and have a chat about drugs or alcohol. The specific dates and times of this are advertised on their Instagram, or you can ask at Hallam’s wellbeing service.  

A drug and alcohol support service that gets you.

Likewise is a drug and alcohol support service with no judgement, no pressure and no expectations. It's help for you, however you need it - it could be dropping in for a cup of tea, or help with housing. Get in touch:

Alcohol Recovery Community (ARC)

If you are worried about your drinking or have already started to make changes, ARC is here to support you whatever stage you are at.

This service is for you if are:

  • over 18
  • live in Sheffield
  • are able to be sober when attending

Sheffield Pathways

Sheffield Pathways provides support and advice for patients attending surgeries who are experiencing a social crisis.

The team are able to offer specialist support over a 50-minute appointment to help individuals manage a range of non-medical issues, including:

  • emotional wellbeing
  • welfare advice
  • housing
  • domestic abuse
  • substance use

Where longer-term support is required, Pathways are able to refer people into the right community service for their specific needs.

Excessive alcohol or drug use can be linked to other factors, such as stress or low mood. Visit our wellbeing resources to find out what support is available.

If you are cutting down on drug or alcohol use, it can be helpful to include other things in your routine to change your patterns of behaviour. Becoming more active can be helpful as it not only provides a distraction, but can lead to an overall enhanced level of wellbeing. There are lots of opportunities to be active at Hallam including our Active Wellbeing sessions, discounted gym membership and social sports teams at Sport Hallam.

If you are looking to try out new things. the Give it a go programme at the Student's Union have some great opportunities, many of which are free of charge and free of alcohol.
